Do You Have The Right Approach To Lose Weight?

Losing weight is a common goal for many people, especially among women. But we are sometimes our own worst enemy when it comes to trying to diet successfully.

Take the following quiz to see whether you have the right approach to dieting. Select your answers from the options given and then work out which type of person you are from the answers below.

1.    If someone mentions the word ?diet?, what is your first reaction?
It?s the only way I will get into the clothes I really want to wear, but I have good days and bad days when I actually start a diet. I?m quite disciplined most of the time though
Dieting is a good way to lose weight, provided it?s a proper, healthy diet and you lose weight slowly. Everything in moderation is the best route to success
I need to go on a diet now, but I don?t seem to be able to get my head round the concept at the moment
It makes me think of those flavored shakes you get in the drugstore

2.    What kind of diet would suit you most?
One where I can lose weight quickly without having to give up chocolate
A well balanced one where I can eat anything in moderation
One that?s easy to stick to, but I haven?t found it yet
Something where I can still go out and enjoy a big meal every now and again

3.    Would you be prepared to give up your lunches out and take a packed lunch instead?
I would hate to do that; I enjoy my lunches out with my work mates too much
I started doing that a while ago. I still eat out occasionally if we?re having a celebration in the office, but not very often
I would, but I really don?t have the time at the moment
Yes I would. I?ve done it before but I kept forgetting to do my lunch and every time I forgot it would take a few days to get back into the swing of it again

4.    Are you prepared to change your cooking habits?
Yes I?ve already replaced high fat items with much lower fat alternatives, and I dry fry or grill now instead of using fat
I do try, yes. Sometimes it?s tricky if you have a favorite recipe, to cook a low fat alternative though. I should buy some cookbooks really
I don?t really cook anyway. I tend to stick with convenience foods
I am. I just need to get in the right frame of mind to do it I think

5.    Do you think it?s worth educating yourself about how to eat more healthily?
No I just want to lose some weight
Definitely. It?s not just about cookbooks, it?s about changing your whole way of looking at food
Yes I think so. I?m always tempted to slip back into old habits though
I suppose so. I don?t really have the time to do it at the moment but I should make time I think

6.    If you have tried to lose weight in the past, what has been your downfall?
Going back to proper meals after sticking to those milkshakes for a few weeks
Well a lot of my eating habits have already changed so I don?t tend to fancy the same foods I used to. I tend to slip up with my portion sizes I think
Chocolate or other sweet foods. I can go for ages without them and be eating really healthily and then I fall off the wagon in spectacular fashion
Not having the motivation to carry on

7.    What kind of weight loss do you think is acceptable every week?
As much as possible ? if it?s coming off then I obviously don?t need it, do I?
Whatever I can manage to lose
A couple of pounds, but I?d like to lose more really
One to two pounds maximum

8.    What would be your reaction to slipping back into old habits, even if only momentarily?
I?d probably binge eat; that tends to be a habit with me occasionally
Well it?s going to happen sometimes isn?t it? I?d just carry on as normal afterwards
That would probably be it ? the end of the diet
It would upset me; it has before. I?d probably fall off the diet for a day or two and then get back on it again

9.    Do you think going on a diet means having to stop eating out?
If I?m trying to lose weight I refuse to eat out
No, definitely not. I do tend to eat too much when I go out though, and I feel dreadful afterwards. I?m back on the diet the next day!
Absolutely not. I still eat out when I?m dieting; I just stick to the healthier dishes and avoid sauces and dessert ? unless it?s a fruit salad
No way! I always eat out and enjoy myself, but it can take me days to get back onto some semblance of a diet again afterwards

10.    Are you prepared to set goals to achieve the weight loss you want?
Yes ? I like to try and lose three to four pounds a week
Yes ? I don?t always achieve them though and it gets me down if I don?t
Yes I normally do. It won?t necessarily be to lose a certain amount of weight each week though ? it could be something as simple as cutting out using butter in sandwiches and switching to salad cream instead
I hadn?t actually thought of that

11.    How do you normally react to cravings for so called ?naughty? foods?
I try and ignore them but it never works so I end up having my cake and eating it too!
I try and ignore it but if it doesn?t go I eat as much as I want
I don?t tend to get cravings like that any more. If I do, I limit myself to a small portion as I find that?s usually enough to get rid of the craving
I usually end up eating way too much and regretting it the next day. It?s hard work getting back on the straight and narrow again after that

12.    Are you prepared to find ways to help you lose weight and stay on the straight and narrow?
I?d like to ? time always seems to slip away but I keep thinking it would be good to find better ways to lose weight
I?m always open to looking at new ways to cook food and present it in ways that are attractive. I know that certain foods can speed up weight loss as well, so they could be good for when you naturally hit that plateau
I haven?t got the time at the moment ? maybe in the future?
No not really ? I always count on the milkshakes to help me lose what I need to

Dieting isn?t just about losing weight ? it?s about changing the way you live and eat. By making changes you can live with and re-educating yourself about how you cook and eat, you can look forward to a new slimmer you, and a better future too.
